Joined Gateway Staff: Fall 2006
Family: Married for 31 years to Linda, two children: a son, Douglas II and daughter, Kathleen. Both children are married. Douglas II lives in Michigan with his wife, Emily, and two daughters, Avery and Morgan. Kathleen lives in Oklahoma with her husband, Jeremy, and two sons, Jesse and Brady.
Saved: I was raised with a traditional upbringing; however, I did not know Jesus. In my early twenties, my wife brought home a teaching about rock & roll music. Listening to the tape opened my eyes to the reality of Satan. I realized if Satan and hell were real that Jesus and heaven must also be real. I made a decision to give my heart and life to Jesus and have never looked back.
Previous Lines of Work: I have been in the construction industry since starting with my father in a family construction company. After 15 years with the family business, I joined an architectural firm and lead their construction department. In the fall of 1995, I left the architectural firm and started a construction management consulting business.
Prior to joining Gateway, we were actively involved at Resurrection Life Church in Grandville, Michigan. I have participated in multiple mission work teams around the world. Most teams involved a construction project of some type. I have built a medical clinic in Haiti, a church in Kharkov Ukraine, a flying missions base in Peru, multiple orphanages in Mexico and schools in Africa.
One of the Things I Find Most Fascinating: How God is so intimately involved in our lives and yet lets us do what we want to do. With His Spirit, He gently, lovingly guides us through the turmoil of this world to arrive at a place of peace with Him.
