Amazing Kids

Mozart composed beautiful symphonies by the age of ten. Josiah became the king of Judah at the age of nine. At the age of eight, Johnny Smith carried a bullfrog in the pocket of his pants two miles just so he could scare his sister ... Kids will be kids!

At Gateway Church we believe in reaching kids right where they are—Mozart or Johnny. That’s why we strive to create an atmosphere filled with fun, laughter and the presence of God. Our programs are designed to attract the hearts of children in such a way that they truly want to come back each week to meet with God and learn about Him in creative (and sometimes even messy) ways, bullfrogs and all.
 

Meet the Amazing Kids Staff
 

Ken Jackson  Pastor, Amazing Kids Ken will do anything to get the point of a lesson across. He’ll take pies in the face, dress up like an animal and even wrestle chairs. His desire is to impart God’s Word to children in creative new ways that bring fun and laughter to each young heart. Ken provides oversight for all areas of Amazing Kids.

Mary Jackson  Pastor, Amazing Kids Mary always has children around her. She has a sweet and tender spirit that melts the hearts of our children. Mary is a storyteller and creative genius who works each week to creatively communicate biblical truths to all of our children. She oversees all of the children’s activities.

Jelani Lewis  Associate Pastor, Amazing Kids/Mix56 Jelani’s passion is to see children really experience God, participate in His amazing work and learn they are big enough to make a difference—all while having a crazy amount of fun! He enjoys teaching and equipping students as they move forward on their spiritual journeys. Jelani also oversees Mix56, Gateway’s preteen ministry for 5th and 6th graders.

Lonnie Morgan  Associate Pastor, Amazing Kids Lonnie loves kids and has a passion for helping them find God! With over 13 years of experience in Christian education, he enjoys teaching and seeing the light of Jesus “turn on” in children. His mission in life is to see children saved and equipped at a young age in hopes that when they’re older, they’ll live victoriously and see Proverbs 22:6 fulfilled in their lives. Lonnie oversees the preschool and elementary areas within Amazing Kids.

Joshua Blount Associate Pastor, Amazing Kids Josh loves creating an environment where kids can get lost in the fun of learning about God. He has been involved in children’s ministry since he was child himself and is dedicated to helping kids grow according to God’s plan for their lives so they can take what they’ve learned and impact the world around them. Josh oversees Amazing Kids at the Frisco Campus.

Dana Johnson Associate Worship Pastor, Amazing Kids Dana loves to see children worshipping God. After all, what could be better? Perhaps this … children leading other children into the presence of God during worship! Dana has learned that worship leaders come in all sizes and ages. His goal is to give each child an opportunity to discover what true worship is and develop freedom in worship. Dana oversees all of the worship for Amazing Kids.

Kerry Cathers Ministry Coordinator, Amazing Kids Fun, relationships and Jesus. That’s a winning combination to have each child embrace her/his uniqueness in the Kingdom of God. Kerry’s desire is to see each child experience a living, loving relationship with Jesus that will guide their lives and form their futures. He enjoys the opportunity to build relationships with the kids and to help them have fun as God’s Amazing Kids. Kerry oversees Amazing Kids at the NRH Campus. 

Cheryl Morgan  Early Childhood Director, Amazing Kids Cheryl has a love and passion for children of all ages. She desires that every child knows and experiences Jesus’ never-changing love at an early age. God gave her that passion at an early age, growing up as the oldest of seven children and serving in the nursery at the age of ten in the church her grandfather pastored. Cheryl is the Nursery Director for all Gateway Campuses.
